In this chapter I describe the Auslan (Australian Sign Language) dictionaries and the lexical database they are based on. Since the 1980s, this database has migrated over multiple software platforms as the types of data that could be contained in newer databases (text, graphics, video) improved and increased, enabling the dictionaries to appear in three formats: print, multimedia (CD-ROM), and online. I describe the lexicography underlying these Auslan dictionaries, the lexicology that determines which signs are included, and the types and contents of the data fields used in the database, and how the data is displayed in each edition. I then describe how the entries in the online edition are hyperlinked to attested examples in a corpus of Auslan. I conclude by discussing how the architecture of Auslan Signbank could accommodate data from any signed language and how this can then be used to conduct cross-linguistic investigations of signed language lexicology and phonology.
