The purpose of this article is to analyse those contexts in which the indicative simple and compound perfect (sang I have sung) move away from their systematic values and assume different time value in verb tenses which belong to the indicative as well as the subjunctive. This work is based on the materials for the study of the linguistic norm of learned people, which were gathered according to the outlines established in the Proyecto de estudio coordinado de la norma linguistica culta del espanol hablado en las principales ciudades del mundo hispanico (the Project of coordinated study of the linguistic norm used by the learned).
