This chapter examines the relationship between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Contextual responsiveness in language learning for the sake of meeting increasing demand for flexible, inclusive and morally sound educational technology. It explores how AI can either help or hinder intercultural communication competence. As a researcher and educator who works with multilingual and multicultural students, I argue that AI systems must take into account a variety of linguistic norms, contextual values, and communication styles. This chapter provides solutions that could be used to improve contextual responsiveness through inclusive data practices, adaptive learning systems, teacher preparation, and community-driven design in addition to identifying cultural bias in training data and the danger of linguistic imperialism.
