Charles Dickens (1812-1870) achieved a recognizableplace among English writers through the use of the stylisticfeatures in his fictional language. This study is concernedwith Dickens' unique fictional language, used in one of hisnovels entitled "Hard Times", in relation to phonologicaldeviation from settled norms in English. It endeavors toshow Dickens' manipulating language and the effectsachieved through this manipulation.This research investigates Dickens' use of languagewhich deviates from the linguistic norm phonologically. Assuch, it is hypothesized that Dickens used phonologicaldeviation to show the character's social class.The study aims to analyze the types of phonologicaldeviations in Dickens' "Hard Times".
